I’m sort of amazed at how few people from Colorado actually ski/snowboard. Most of the time, the people that are excited to be on the slopes are those that have moved from somewhere else. I’m not certain if it is the perception that skiing is expensive or a hassle (it can be – but you can also score deals, spend great family time together, get exercise and more). And some people don’t do it because they never learned how. January is Learn to ski and snowboard month – so take advantage of these great deals and learn a new sport that can be enjoyed with the whole family. Then when you out of town guests come to town and want to go skiing you will be able to show them how!
Junior Trade Program. The best deal in town for kid’s equipment is the Junior Ski Trade program at Colorado Ski and Golf (Ski and Sport/Boulder Deals) locations. The easy-on-the-budget program provides deeply discounted prices on full set-ups (skis, bindings, poles, boots, safety check) for both new and used equipment for children and teens who take advantage of this annual update program. The advantage: annual exchange of equipment “grows” with the kids allowing them to be in the right-sized boots and right sized ski or snowboard. The cost for the entire first season on used equipment starts at $99.99 or starting at $199.99 for a brand new equipment set-up. (Normal single day rental is typically somewhere around $30). For every subsequent season the child participates in Junior Trade through Colorado Ski & Golf, customers get a 50 percent in-store credit on their initial purchase price towards updated and re-fitted gear. Early birds get the widest selection of sizes and brands. The program is available to youth snowboarders at a slightly higher price.
Ski Area Programs, Deals and Fun:
5th and 6th Grade Passport. Colorado Ski Country is still offering the 5th and 6th Grade Passport. If you have a student in 5th or 6th grades. You can get the best deal in the state! FREE Skiing/Snowboarding (for the 5th graders) Yes, we said FREE! Or just $125 if they are in 6th Grade. In addition to the skiing at the 21 member resorts you get a FREE beginner level lesson which includes equipment rental on the day of the lesson! Sign up online before the end of January.

My car stalled on me last week – I got it back from the shop and then went to pick up my daughter from school, where it promptly died again. It was towed back again (they still have it). At first I was a little upset and felt trapped at home. But my kids and I had a great weekend without it. We walked to the store, we watched California (beach) movies and cooked at home. Sometimes what you think is the worst…your kids see as the best.

Kids Eat Free Mile High Mamas has rounded up a huge listing of local restaurants where kids eat free or for a discount with a paying adult.
I recently went to a fun Detective Dinner with my kids that we booked through Vimbly.com. Vimbly offered MileHighMamas a gift certificate to try out the service. It was simple to choose a fun and interactive event to participate in (I will write a post shortly about our night). The choices were plentiful from exploration, adventure, eating, drinking and more. The process for making our choice, registering, checking out and what I liked best was the reminder emails.

How early do your kids start thinking of what they will be for Halloween? At what age do they stop trick or treating? I sort of miss the cute trick or treating days (my kids at 14 and 15 years old have no intention to trick or treat this year – but are already plotting their costumes). I typically purchase candy that I like to eat in case I don’t hand it all out. But maybe I shouldn’t do that and my waist wouldn’t feel the effects. I recently read a post on facebook that some neighbors are trying to be conscientious about the neighbor kids peanut allergies and gluten free diets. Is this something you care about?
Noodles. Noodles is celebrating their 20th anniversary with 20 days of giveaways. The first of which is on Oct 20 you get a free mac and cheese with the purchase of another entree. Noodle lovers enjoy!

Kneaders Bakery and Cafe. My daughter and I went to the newest Kneaders on Friday after my son’s football game. My daughter called it a “fast-food Cracker Barrel.” I am guessing she said that because there is a (Hallmark-like) shop. The menu is primarily sandwiches, salads, and soups with a ton of bakery items as well (my daughter said the pumpkin cookie was great). I understand we should go back for the french toast (we didn’t get there in time for the free meal). While the rest of the world turns everything in to Pumpkin Spice something-or-another, I have an obsession of another kind. I can not get enough of Jonathan apples. I literally take the “apple a day” mantra to heart. It is only at this time of year that I can seem to get my hands on them. They are cheap at just 88 cents a pound at my favorite store, Sprouts. How much longer will the Pumpkin Spice fad last? I’m not sure, so long as no one else turns my Jonathan apples into a “thing” and there are still plenty for me – I’ll be ok.
