Weekly Deals: FabFitFun, Beachbody, ChickFilA and More

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? I have tried that in the past. This year I’m trying something different. I’m going to focus on a word. I was reading that if you focus on a word – it doesn’t feel so negative (we all know that many people don’t really stick to their resolutions). So, I picked a word. Would you also pick a word? Let me know what you pick. I may follow up with you in a month or so and see how your word focus is helping you!

FabFitFun Box. I may have mentioned before. I am a mail junkie. Yes, I order magazines hoping I can get on someone’s mailing list. I wait for the mail person like the just brought me an amazing prize. Only now, I do get a PRIZE (or at least it feels like it). I bought myself a Christmas present that will continue giving all year long. The FabFitFun box features full size items. The first box I received included: Modcloth scarf/blanket, cute to-go coffee mug, coloring book & colored pencils, lip gloss stain, argan hair oil, mineral face peel, tag necklace (that my daughter promptly took), skin hydrating booster and a nail polish. The whole box was just $40 (Using a 20% off coupon code – COZY) and that stuff in the box totals $200+. I’d say that’s a deal! The boxes are sent quarterly.

Beachbody On Demand. I know that a lot of people get enthused about being more active/healthy this time of year. Beachbody (the makers of P90X, Insanity and more) are making ALL of their programs available for a whole year for just $199 (most gym memberships are around $45/month – so this is a GREAT deal). You can work out in your own home any time of day or night! Sign up here. (Yes, I’m doing it too!)

Chick Fil A. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! From 6 a.m. to 10:30 either go inside or drive through to get a free breakfast each Wednesday in January. Items will vary weekly and by location.

Stock Show. As a Colorado native, January has always meant Stock Show and Rodeo to me! Join the festivities with the kick-off event, the parade of livestock down the streets of Denver this Thursday. The step-off is at noon at Union Station. The stock show and rodeo runs January 7-22. Tickets are inexpensive and it can be an entire day of fun for the whole family.

Chicago In A Weekend

Several years ago, I won a trip to Los Angeles to see Taylor Swift in concert. I took my daughter. I have felt that I owed a trip to my son. (I’m one of those moms that tries really hard to make both my kids even!) So as his 16th birthday approached – I learned that I had achieved Companion status on Southwest Airlines. So I invited him to pick a destination and we would go there for his birthday. (I work with HelmsBriscoe – so I believed that I had hotel taken care of).

He decided that he wanted to go to Chicago. He also said he didn’t want to go unless his sister could go with. So, I booked my flight. I got his for free (companion) and then used some points for her flight. We were on our own Southwest Vacation!

Our agenda:

Saturday: Arrival at Midway at approx 9:50. Get picked up by my friend, Jennifer (who works for Starwood). She took us to The Gwen where we would be treated to an amazing suite and adjoining room. Thanks to the Chicago CVB (Choose Chicago) we were treated to tickets to the famous Field Museum. So the kids and I set out to walk across the park(s) to the museum seeing “The Bean” (officially called Cloud Gate) along the way. We also made sure to stop by a hot dog cart and get a real Chicago Dog. We messed around in the museum and then walked “home” to The Gwen. We did go out in the rain/snow again and got dinner at Gino’s East. Gino’s took a really long time. Despite being warned that it would take a while – we stayed. I felt satisfied that I had made sure that my kids got the quintissential Chicago food (Hot Dog and Pizza).

Sunday: Sunday I let the kids sleep in a bit. Then we headed out to the Willis Tower. I asked the kids if they would like to get an Uber or if we wanted to walk. They said walk. While it was only a 1.5 mile walk. It sure seemed longer in the Chicago cold. The Willis Tower had a thing called The SkyDeck on the 103rd floor. Where you can literally step out on a glass box (jutting outside of the building) and be above the city. We were glad we went that day as it was much clearer than it had been the previous day. Then we went to the John Hancock Building off Michigan Avenue to Tilt! and 360 Chicago. Once again, we were treated to amazing views – and literally tilted out over the city. For lunch, we headed to Harry Caray’s 7th Inning Stretch. But I think more than the food – or even who Harry was my son really liked the interactive Chicago Sports Museum (the interactive exhibits were really fun) – and admission is free with a certain purchase amount at the restaurant.

We headed back to the hotel then grabbed an Uber to the Colorado Avalanche v. Chicago Blackhawks game at the United Center. The atmosphere in the center is amazing! And Chicago really does love their Blackhawks. We had great seats and enjoyed the game (even though we – the Avalanche – lost). We were a little worried being the only people in Avalanche gear that we would be heckled – but the guys who sat next to us said, “no, not in Chicago – we are a sports town and just really like a great competition.” They were right!

Monday morning: Sadly, we had to fly back to reality. Although I thought I was a bit funny – when my daughter noticed on the flight tracker that it said we had 3 hours left in the flight, despite us being about an hour into a two and a half hour flight. I said very calmly, maybe we got on the wrong plane and we’re not headed back to Denver. She kept looking out the window very nervously until touchdown at DIA. #HomeSweetHome.

I need to send out a special thank you to Starwood Hotels (Jennifer and Haley) – our hotel host; Choose Chicago (Dawn) – for tickets to Field Museum, Sky Deck, 360 Chicago, Tilt and BLACKHAWKS (Dawn at Chicago and Steve at Blackhawks); and of course Southwest Airlines for my companion pass and easy to redeem points.

We had a great time in Chicago and may have even inspired a future Chicago resident in my son.

Where would you take a Southwest Airlines weekend get away? What would you do when you are there? Do you look at the Southwest site to get ideas? (There are lots of great ideas/sales right now)

Denver Deal: Noodles, Chili’s, Kneaders and More

How early do your kids start thinking of what they will be for Halloween? At what age do they stop trick or treating? I sort of miss the cute trick or treating days (my kids at 14 and 15 years old have no intention to trick or treat this year – but are already plotting their costumes). I typically purchase candy that I like to eat in case I don’t hand it all out. But maybe I shouldn’t do that and my waist wouldn’t feel the effects. I recently read a post on facebook that some neighbors are trying to be conscientious about the neighbor kids peanut allergies and gluten free diets. Is this something you care about?

Noodles. Noodles is celebrating their 20th anniversary with 20 days of giveaways. The first of which is on Oct 20 you get a free mac and cheese with the purchase of another entree. Noodle lovers enjoy!

Chili’s. Chili’s is celebrating the Presidente margarita’s 21st birthday with $5 margaritas and 21-cent chips and salsa. OMG. Their chips are the BEST! (You can even buy the chips without the margarita).

Avalanche Family Night. Family night (presented by White Fence Farm) is Saturday, October 24 v Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m. just $31 each gets you 1 upper level ticket, 1 Food & Pepsi Voucher. I love the way the Avalanche changed this promotion this year to a per person price (not all families are “4-packs”).

Nuggets Family Night. October 30 is Family night at the Nuggets. Get 1 Ticket and 1 Meal and Pepsi Voucher for just $22!

Kneaders Bakery and Cafe. My daughter and I went to the newest Kneaders on Friday after my son’s football game. My daughter called it a “fast-food Cracker Barrel.” I am guessing she said that because there is a (Hallmark-like) shop. The menu is primarily sandwiches, salads, and soups with a ton of bakery items as well (my daughter said the pumpkin cookie was great). I understand we should go back for the french toast (we didn’t get there in time for the free meal). Englewood location at 9846 Zenith Meridian Dr will open Friday, October 23 – the first 100 customers will receive a complimentary meal of Kneaders’ famous French toast on their first day of business.
