Denver Deal: Bike to Work Day, ByATeacher, Free Movies and More

I feel sort of left out when I work at home… I can’t participate (really) in this Wednesday’s is Bike To Work Day. Bike to Work day is an annual event designed to get people to try using their bikes for transportation. There are several great benefits of more people using their bikes to commute including reduced congestion, improved air quality and of course… your personal fitness.  But on this day, there are fun events and stations to visit. You can win prizes, enjoy breakfast and even grab a buy one get one free burrito from Chipotle.

Family Adventure Quest. Families of all ages are encouraged to spend their Fourth of July weekend at Copper Mountain, Colo., and take part in the inaugural Copper Family Adventure Quest on July 2. The Copper Adventure Quest, presented by the Kids Adventure Games, will offer families a chance to experience an adventure course like no other with zip lines, mud pits, slacklines, cargo nets, trekking, biking and a variety of other unique challenges in the Village at Copper and on Copper Mountain. Teams will consist of two challengers, one adult/teen and one child, who will tackle the course while they work together on building confidence, teamwork, communication and fun. The Kids Adventure Games offers kids, ages 6 through 14, the opportunity to experience the thrill of adventure racing.
Arts Brookfield. Intrude features five giant, huggable rabbit sculptures made of nylon, inflated and lit internally, to downtown Denver at Republic Plaza. The exhibit will be up for a few more dates through this weekend. June 23-25 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. & June 26from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Summer is in full swing at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs. The mountain-top park offers a full day of family fun with tram and thrill rides, cave tours and family-friendly attractions, plus live music and entertainment throughout the summer. Golden Bike Library. I love biking and I love libraries! What could be better? Nothing!  The Golden Bike Library is a bike share program, where residents, visitors, local employees and students can “check-out” a bike for local use in Golden. Located at the Golden Visitors Center at 1010 Washington, the Golden Bike Library will offer 40 bikes available for two hour rentals for free, or a $10 daily fee.  Bikes will be available on Thursday-Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. What’s even better is they have all different kinds of bike (including kids bicycles).
ColoradoSUP. Stand Up Paddleboarding seems to be all the rage… at least where I live (I live near Chatfield). But it can be expensive. Buying a board is out of my budget and sometimes even renting (at $20/hour x 2 boards) is too much for my budget. But when I talked to Chris at Colorado SUP at the Gravel Pond of Chatfield. She told me they do a $10 Tuesday special. If you come out on Tuesdays they will rent for just $10/hour.
Maui Wowi Hawaiian Coffees & Smoothies, coffee & smoothie shop, is celebrating their one anniversary in Lowry’s Hangar 2 with free smoothies and Pinkberry frozen yogurt on Saturday, June 25from 1-3 p.m. Additionally, from June 20-25, Maui Wowi is donating 10% of sales to Denver Gives, an organization that provides free resources to local non-profit organizations. Hangar 2 is also celebrating the kick-off to summer with an outdoor party from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 with live music, food sampling and drink specials.


Harkins Summer Movies. Harkins Theatres’ popular annual kid’s movie program, Summer Movie fun, kicks off Monday, June 6. Season tickets for all 10 movies are just $5. Free Summer Meals for Kids from Hunger-Free Colorado. A collaborative effort of government agencies, nonprofit and community-based organizations, and school districts focuses on addressing child hunger through a statewide summer food program. This summer, more than 500 community sites across Colorado will provide meals to children up to 18 years old at no cost. Community sites such as churches, schools and recreation centers offer free breakfasts, lunches, suppers and/or snacks that meet federal nutrition guidelines, as well as fun, engaging activities for children so they continue to exercise their minds and their bodies. There are no income or registration requirements for participation. Film Society Dahl House. The Denver Film Society is proud to launch family programming with a retrospective of films written by or based on novels by beloved author Roald Dahl. All guests are $5, children under 6 are free and admission includes an all-you-can-eat cereal bar! Doors open and cereal will be available at 10am and the films will start at 10:30am.
FREE BOWLINGPunch Bowl Social (65 Broadway) is bringing back the popular free summer bowling for kids. Starting June 1st, kids ages 15 and under can bowl for one hour at no cost including shoes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 am to 2 pm, just be sure an adult is also in attendance.
